Featuring nine celebrated artists, the group exhibition calls together work from diverse materials and methods. The artists of √2 (Square Root of 2) embrace phenomena that emerge from playful and disruptive approaches in creating within the size, ratio, and properties of standard paper sizes within the “A” series. The exhibition explores relevant themes including the materiality, irrationality, convenience, and enigmatic history of these familiar ratios in substrates and material. √2 (Square Root of 2) is an invitation for the subject and object to explore our relationship within these sizes and the measure of things.

Cut Me Up Issue 8: Guided by Instinct, curated by Naomi White, is a selection of 18 artworks that explore humans’ complex relationships with animals, and the implications these relationships have on our lives and planet.
In our relationship to animals, there are many contradictions. As John Berger declares in Why Look At Animals, “Animals first entered the imagination as messengers and promises. For example, the domestication of cattle did not begin as a simple prospect of milk and meat. Cattle had magical functions, sometimes oracular, sometimes sacrificial.” We mythologize and revere animals, yet sacrifice, tame, kill and consume them. What does that say about us as a species?
The artists in this issue investigate the dualistic meanings which animals embody and the contradictions in ourselves that this relationship illuminates. Exploring our paradoxical desires to nurture, love, dominate and consume animals, the artists’ responses range from tenderness to concern, from joy to enchantment.

ArtScience Museum is presenting a thematic exhibition exploring form, colour and spirituality, including the work of influential artists such as Carmen Herrera (Cuba-USA, 1915- ); Mona Hatoum (Lebanon/UK, 1952- ) and Richard Long (UK, 1945- ) as well as contemporary artists Song Dong (China, 1966- ); Tan Ping (China, 1960- ); Charwei Tsai (Taiwan/France/Vietnam,1980- ) and teamLab (Japan, 2001- ). Singaporean artist Jeremy Sharma (Singapore, 1977- ) will also be showcasing his new commission at the exhibition. I am honoured to have contributed to Spectrum Version 3 (The Monologues 2018).

Optical science would force us to only classify the color pink simply as minus green, pink exists in a gap in the color wheel. A space that is occupied by gamma and radio rays, among other unseeable things. Pink is really only the absence of green and we technically shouldn't be able to see it. Left out of the visible spectrum and neither a particle nor a wave, our eyes miraculously invent pink to fill the gap. As a collage artist I approach my artworks in a painterly manner. I wished to examine the schism of these two very conflicting colors and collage as many greens and pinks as possible. During this process I was able to see the merger of color invented by my mind and hands alike. This exploration helped me to consider concepts on "nature" and ways of seeing.
